Business Skills Certificate Program
This Business Skills Certificate Program is an effort to provide a package of courses to prepare students for the business skills field. The Business Skills Certificate Program will include completion of the following classes: Accounting, Computer Literacy, The Internet, Keyboarding, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Modern Office Skills, QuickBooks I & II, and Windows. A one-time, non-refundable processing fee of $89.00 upon registration is required in addition to the regular course fees. Up to two classes may be done online with prior approval from the Director.
CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) 9/27
If you are thinking about starting a CNA career in the medical field, this 180-hour course may be right for you. This course involves both classroom and clinical study. Computer Literacy 9/8 & 12/13
Introduction to word processing, hardware, software, and keyboard short-cut keys. Upon completing this course, you should be comfortable in front of the computer, be able to delete, copy files, create and print a document. You should not feel pressured and will be allowed to progress at your own pace.

Customer Service Training 9/20
Great service is one of the keys to growing and sustaining a business. This training program is designed to teach basic customer service skills and help you establish who our customers are. You will learn up-to-date skills such as telephone courtesy, projecting the proper professional image, and so much more! Participants who successfully complete this course will be eligible to take the national Customer Service Specialist (CSS) Certification Exam offered through ETA International. Requirements: Minimum 8th grade reading level. 12-hour orientation and assessment must be completed before enrollment.

Digital Photography 11/9
Wondering how to operate that new digital camera you got? This class will cover digital camera controls and features, as well as methods for editing, transferring, storing and printing pictures. While we can't promise answers to all questions about the endless hardware and software possibilities, we will attempt to help students find paths to solutions. Pair this basics class with Exploring Photography for a look at the artistic side of what you can do now that you have mastered your digital camera and get a $10 discount on both classes.

Exploring Photography 10/4
Do you want to focus on the artistic side of photography using both the 35mm and digital cameras? You will learn about elements and rules of composition, lighting, portraiture, and other subject areas. We will place special emphasis on landscape and scenic photography. We will also discuss examples of the styles and approach of various photographers’ work. Darkroom equipment and instructions will be available for those interested. This 6-hour seminar will address frequently asked questions about the internet and take you on an online tour designed to give you a sample of what's out there. The last 30 minutes will be a question and answer period. No prerequisite. No materials to purchase.

Keyboarding 9/7
Using the computer software program FasType for Windows, you will learn the basic skills of touch-typing. If you already know how to type, this course will help you improve your typing speed and accuracy. When you are finished with the course, continue to use FasType for Windows to improve your keyboarding skills with its intermediate and advanced lessons. Introduction to Laptops 11/29
Do you want to learn how to handle, operate, configure, and troubleshoot a laptop? We will begin with how to handle a laptop safely and how to manage risks to the laptop when in transit. We’ll then learn about the different connections to the laptop for mice, projection monitors, external speakers, and printers, to name a few. An overview of networking a laptop will be given for both wireless and wired network connections. We’ll cover all the different types of drives that can be used with the laptop—both internal and external. We’ll cover how to manage and maintain the battery for long life and power efficiency. We’ll review all the unique keys found on the keyboard that help you manage laptop settings. Last, we’ll venture into the Windows operating system to learn how to control the settings on the laptop. Students should have basic Window experience. 4 Sessions.

This course involves data base for beginners. You will learn how to design tables and forms (queries and reports) and how to link data bases. Prerequisite: Basic Windows skills required.

Provides a basic understanding of and ability to use an electronic spreadsheet system. Students will become familiar with spreadsheet concepts and various commands used in developing and managing a computer spreadsheet. Do you use Excel regularly but wish to explore the more advanced features such as presenting data graphically, sorting and grouping data, and filtering data? Advanced printing techniques will be covered. If time permits, the instructor will cover topics requested by students including security, hyperlinks, exporting data and embedding worksheets in other Microsoft applications. 2 Sessions.

Create presentations (with pictures, sounds, etc.) that you can put to work for you right away. The class will take you from start to print of your presentation. We will cover: Text objects, illustrating slides, changing appearance of skills, adding charts and diagrams, adding tables, adding multimedia elements, and animating slides and objects. Plus, learn the secret to making a professional presentation.

Microsoft Word I 10/13
Introduction to MS Word is for if you have no previous experience in computer word processing. After a brief overview of basic computer functions, the class provides introduction to the features of Microsoft Word. Students will learn the functions and operations of the MS Word desktop, the various toolbars and basic menu commands. Upon completion of the course, students can create and save documents, generate basic documents, and apply basic formatting features to text. 2 Sessions.

If you have used MS Word or other word processing programs previously, this class explores the more powerful features of Word including how to organize information into tables, applying footnotes, endnotes, and graphics. This course is designed to improve skills used in the modern office of today. Topics to be covered, as time permits, will be selected from the following: telephone etiquette, filing skills, use of electronic calculators, handling mail, appropriate work attitude/behavior/attire, time management and organizational skills, use of office equipment (photocopier, fax machine), spelling and proofreading practice, taking notes/minutes, resume building, interviewing practice, and use of reference manuals. 2 Sessions.

QuickBooks I 10/12
This course is an introduction to QuickBooks, a powerful accounting system for small businesses. It will give you hands-on experience in using QuickBooks for small businesses. We will cover understanding business terminology, setting up a business accounting system, using QuickBooks lists, managing accounts, working with bank accounts and credit card transactions, and using sales deposits. QuickBooks II 11/30
This course is a follow-up to QuickBooks I, covering entering and paying bills, analyzing financial data (exporting reports to Microsoft Excel), setting up inventory, tracking and paying sales tax, doing payroll, estimating and progress invoicing, tracking time and mileage, customizing forms and writing letters with QuickBooks (integrating with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook). Upon completion of this course you will have a better understanding of how to use an automated system for your small business.

Residential Electrical 9/23
Seventy percent of an electrician's job is knowing laws and rules. In this course, you will learn the laws for safely running electricity in your own home to properly meet code requirements. We will cover the National Electric Code, electrical service (meter box) as well as installing lighting receptacles, troubleshooting electrical problems, housing layouts and requirements, and sizing and layout of electrical heat for a building or home. This 8-week course will focus on your interests and projects. You will be able to concentrate on a particular style of welding while using the welding procedure of their choice, such as torch welding, brazing, soldering, mig welding, or spot welding.
